Belcanto Restaurant by José Avillez, Lisbon
2013 N/2014
The Belcanto restaurant opened in 1958 in Chiado, in the trendy São Carlos square next to the São Carlos National Theatre and the house where Fernando Pessoa was born. Its singular location at the historic centre of Lisbon, its sober, sophisticated atmosphere, the discrete and attentive service, and the delights at its cuisine, soon won over Lisbon's elite who turned the Belcanto into the place to be seen.

In the summer of 2011, Chef José Avillez took an interest in Belcanto and began an extensive refurbishment of the kitchens and dining areas. José Avillez's Belcanto re-opened at the beginning of 2012, totally renewed.

José Avillez and his team look at haute cuisine as a form of expression. At the Belcanto they share their inspirations, emotions and concerns through their culinary representations and illusions. Each dish tells a story and sets out to stir the emotions of those willing to try it.

Michelin Guide review: (2013/2014) Belcanto is situated behind a discreet façade in the typical Bairro Alto district. It has two attractively decorated dining rooms. Both are furnished in a classic, contemporary style and both boast views of the kitchen. Traditional dishes form the basis of the menu, alongside more creative cuisine with an innovative touch.

Restaurant Henrique Leis, Vale Formoso, Almancil

2010/2011/2012/2013/2014
Some call it intimate and rustic; some call it quaint Swiss-style chalet. No matter the description of the comfortable ambiance, the cuisine of Brazilian Chef Henrique Leis is a stand out performance. The international menu includes such creations as royal urchins and nuts oysters lukewarm Sabayon seaweeds, filet- mignon de boeuf sauce au Porto et á la truffe, and lobster Sagres in two services. A cuisine that celebrates the elegance and importance of details. The wine list is equally impressive.

Michelin Guide review: (2014) In this delightful house guests can choose between rustically styled dining rooms decorated with great taste and an attractive balcony-terrace on the first floor offering good views. Contemporary cuisine with its roots in classical dishes, with an emphasis on meticulous preparation and creative detail.
